Moving without actually moving
Classic elegance in crème, cognac, and black – with some crafty touches. This was a living-dining area that I created with a limited budget.
The moment Roni spotted my curtains, she knew she had to have those in her home. It then turned out she could also use some practical advice on interior design, as they were moving to another unit within their house. With their existing furniture as a starting point, I helped her select a colour scheme for their new home.
The brown Art Deco sofa and armchair, the classic white IKEA cabinets, the rugs, and the white kitchen served as the basis for my design. But Roni also wanted something in black. For the walls I suggested a warm cognac tone with white mouldings and baseboards. This gives the white pieces a soft glow. Perforated IKEA pendants in black and bronze create interesting plays of light and shadow throughout. In addition to all this white, a wall segment received a bold black coat and some eye-catching visuals.
The clever use of soft furnishing adds a greater sense of elegance. I dreamed up black curtain rods, a polished set of colour block curtains in crème, cognac, and black, which feature French pleats and Art Deco buttons, and are held gracefully in place with black and brown tie-backs. Ranging from light beige to dark chocolate, the cushions of various texture were selected from IKEA and H&M. Finally, Persian style rugs were laid as a finishing touch.
